A large silversword (or 'ahinahina) in full bloom at sunrise at the summit parking lot on Mt. Haleakala, Haleakala National Park, Maui. They bloom once, at the end of their lifetime (of three to 90-plus years) for about four days. This rare photo was taken during that time. This subspecies of silversword is only found above 6,500 ft. on the slopes of Haleakala. It is still on the U.S. Fish and Wildlife's threatened species list.
